tHe SuBaRu ChAlleNgE 2o05...
So indeed, i went to the Subaru Challenge at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza to take some photos and video, and to soak in the camaraderie as well... I chose a good timing for that day... Reached there at around 12.45, 15 mins before the break time, to get a good spot for my video taking... Coz bao bei will be practising her piano, i thot that i'd bring the event on video right before her eyes...
I must say this year's challengers are not as strong as last year... By 1pm on sunday, 24 hours into the game, only 56 teams are left from the 217 teams participating in this year's challenge... after the 1pm break, another 2 teams dropped out, leaving behind 54 others... On monday evening, i watched the evening news at 6.30 pm to see how's the progress going... Only six teams are left in the game... And at 9.30pm's news reporting, on 4 teams are left... I knew that the challenge is going to end either in the wee hours of the morning, or early next morning... On the 9.30 news, the reporter interviewed the only lady participant from the 4 teams left in the game, she appeared refreshed and still very excited... like she could still go on for another 2 or 3 days... when the cameraman showed around the event, the other male contestants are visibly shack and restless...
And the challenge is over...
At 5.31am on tuesday morning, after 64 and half hours into the game, the winners of the subaru challenge 2005 are out... Indeed, the team with the female participant emerged the winner... beating the other 3 teams with male-male partnering... The 36 year old guy, with his 23 year old girlfriend (13 years age gap!!), won themselves a $60,000 subaru impreza each!! Watching the news coverage on tv, the second last team had a participant whom had had his hand slipped off his palm size decal which he held on to dearly for the past few days... He didn't want to give up on the car and contined to hold on onto the decal... After much persuasion from the event organisers did he decide to let go... The most poor thing about these people is that they had held on as equally long a time as the winning team, but had to see the prize winning go to the other team as they are -- not the winners... and no consolation prize was given to them... It was juz a matter of seconds, and the car is lost...
On the whole, this year's challenge was not as long lasting as last year's... My conclusion is that, as this year's challenge is based on a team, any one of the team members who had their hand slipped off would mean the other team member would be out too... therefore, doubling the chance of getting ousted... Secondly, the 1st partner was the one whom called through to the radio station to gain a chance to the challenge... If the partner that he roped in was not as excited as he is, which he may juz be taggling along with him, he may not last as long as him, and cause him to be oust as well... comparing to the previous year's challenge, when it was on the individual... Since he made himself the chance to get on to the competition, he would naturally go all the way out to maintain his position in the challenge...
Anyway, below are the pics to the event... enjoy.. =)

The guy on the right, with his hands inverted, has the most difficult position... Most of the participants with that position has been ousted... Noticed that girl at the centre of the boot, back facing the camera? I think she's the winner of this year's challenge... This is the car where the winners were emerged...
And the 5 min break starts now... Participants running to their toilet break and lunch...
Getting some rest before it starts again...
Getting ready to begin another 6 gruelling hours...
And the winning team is...
The girl is actually quite pretty... =)
